ORLANDO, Fla. – Students at Central Florida Boys & Girls Clubs now have a new place to improve their STEM skills and pursue their dreams.

On Friday, executives from Walt Disney World and the nonprofit group announced that after several months of construction, a new robotics room has opened at the Walt Disney World Clubhouse.

The opening at the Orlando location on Hernandes Drive is just the latest collaboration between Disney and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida. Back in December, officials said the new center was made possible thanks to a $500,000 Disney grant awarded to celebrate the resort’s 50th anniversary.

“We always get excited when local students in our community dream big and grow their skills. So it was exciting to work with Boys & Girls Clubs to bring this new robotics center to life,” said Rena Langley, senior vice president of communications and public affairs at Walt Disney World.

As students explore the robotics center, they get hands-on opportunities to use a variety of tools, including drill presses, laser cutters, and 3D printers. A Disney spokesman said many of these students would then go on to test their skills in various STEM competitions.

Disney said its relationship with the organization Boys & Girls Clubs spans three decades and builds on its long tradition of supporting students through the Disney Future Storytellers initiative — a mission to empower the next generation of storytellers and innovators supposed to dream of their future. Develop their talents and become who they imagine themselves to be.
