The Gran Turismo movie just received a preview trailer. During Sony’s CES 2023 presentation early Thursday, director Neill Blomkamp took the stage to introduce the theatrical adaptation of the popular PlayStation racing title. The short teaser features sleek cars and camera angles straight from the games, as well as a first look at David Harbor’s character Jack Salter, a retired racer who acts as a mentor for the future generation. In the short trailer, the Stranger Things actor can be seen supervising Gran Turismo players – the game is used as a driving simulator.
As previously revealed, game stations The upcoming cinematic project is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the British racing driver who launched his career by attending the GT Academy training program. The Gran Turismo Sneak peek confirms this Archie Madekwe (Midsommar) will indeed share the same name and will train at Salter to rise to the big leagues as a professional racer. “This film was made for the cinema” Orlando Bloom reads the promo while wearing a gray Nissan jacket, a nod to his character Danny Moore, and is part of Mardenborough’s crew.
At the event, Director Blomkamp mentioned using the Sony Venice 2 camera’s detachable sensors to emulate in-game camera angles, noting that it was particularly helpful for capturing footage from the cockpit. He promised three main camera angles Gran Turismo Movie, including the grill angle, a POV from inside the car, and a third-person view from behind the car where the camera is mounted on an arm. The seven-week shoot of the Gran Turismo movie wrapped up with the stunt driver late last month Mauro Calo claims “To have broken new ground in how to film race cars actually racing.”
The Gran Turismo franchise is among several other first-party PlayStation games primed for live-action adaptation. A Days Gone Movie and a God of War series for Amazon Prime Video are in the works, while the upcoming HBOs The Last of Us serieswill premiere on January 16 At Disney+ Hotstar in India. Also starring in the Gran Turismo film are Darren Barnet (Love Hard), Djimon Hounsou (Shazam!), Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell-Horner, Daniel Puig, Josha Stradowski and Thomas Kretschman (west world).
In addition, at the venue Sony confirmed that Gran Turismo 7the latest installment in the racing sim series, gains support for PS VR2at start on February 22nd. Those who already own the title on a PS4 or PS5 get access to this new version as a free upgrade.
The Gran Turismo film is slated to hit theaters on August 11th.
