Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is getting a playable demo later this month. In a tweet, developer Team Ninja confirmed that a snippet of its upcoming fantasy Souls-like title will be free to play starting February 24th. As this is the second demo of the game, all save data and progression from this version will carry over to the full purchase, on all platforms. As an added bonus, after completing the demo, players will receive the Crouching Dragon Helmet DLC in the final game. While this might seem like a bargain at first, keep in mind that these games – the successors to Nioh – are praised for their high level of difficulty that will test your skills. Thankfully, there’s no indication of time limits on how long you can play it.
In Wo Long: The Fallen DynastyYou will be thrown into a dark, fantastical version of later Han Dynasty China, plagued by demonic monsters that are driving the prosperous empire to collapse. You take on the role of a nameless militiaman who plunges into the midst of chaos, engaging in melee combat against deadly creatures and enemy foot soldiers. Borrowing from the previous Nioh game series, learning how to parry/block attacks is a huge benefit here as it creates opportunities for counterattacks. Of course, all movesets are associated with some form of elemental attack, which depends on which “phase” or combat style you choose at the start of the game. Fire represents deadly attacks, water represents stealth, earth represents defense, wood represents support, and metal represents debuffs. However, to make the journey easier for newcomers, the world is filled with flagpoles that essentially act as campfires or checkpoints where you can level up your characters and reset any diseases you may have. Earlier this week, Team Ninja confirmed that players can summon NPCs or warriors online to help defeat bosses – using tiger sigils scattered throughout the Three Kingdoms. While the former’s AI isn’t particularly skilled, it will definitely help in catching the enemy’s attention while you keep attacking them from the blind spot.
