Black Adam will not be getting a sequel at DC Studios. In a statement released on Twitter, lead Dwayne Johnson confirmed that after speaking with the company’s new co-CEO James Gunn, it was decided that “Black Adam will not be in the first chapter of [DC Universe’s] Storytelling.” However, the 50-year-old actor and DC will continue to explore “the most valuable ways” to use Black Adam in future “multiverse chapters.” Gunn also responded to the tweet, hoping to see what Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions have in store as the revamped DC Universe continues.
DC Studios is currently undergoing a massive restructuring that includes a full one “reset to default”, charting the next 10 years for the comic book universe. Similar to them Marvel Cinematic Universe, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav wants his superhero arcs to connect and create a coherent storyline leading to a dramatic conclusion, presumably with plans for a new one justice league Movie.
Amid the restructuring, several projects have been canceled in recent weeks, starting with Patty Jenkins’ wonder woman 3whose script treatment “did not fit into the new plans.” Also Henry Cavillwho was brought back to play on the franchise superman again was removed as Gunn wanted to focus on them younger days of the Kryptonian superhero – no origin story.
However, it was more than a little messy. Warner Bros. temporarily brought Cavill back as Superman for the first time since 2017 justice leaguein a post-credits cameo for Black Adam. Johnson and his production team fought hard to achieve the cameo he intended to use as a catalyst to set up a heavyweight fight between them Black Adam and superman. The actor, who was on a mission to change the “power hierarchy in the DC Universe,” even promised the showdown as the end resultwhile introducing new groups like that at the same time Justice Society of America (JSA).
That sounded promising Black Adam below average for both critical and commercial level. With a reported production budget From US$190 million (approx. Rs. 1,570 billion) which rose to US$260 million “after a costly 20-day round of reshoots” following poor test screenings, the latest DC film only managed 391 million worldwide Earning US Dollars (approx. Rs. 3,300 billion) . A bizarre move, Johnson went to twitter to reassure his followers Black Adam was on track to turn a profit, albeit on a defensive stance in hopes of a follow-up film getting the green light at the studio.
“James and I have known each other for years and have always been committed to each other’s success,” Johnson said in a new statement. “It’s no different now, and I’ll always be rooting for it direct current (and Wonder) to win and win big.” Meanwhile, Gunn addressed some of the hatred directed at him and DC Studios’ co-CEO Peter Saffron, noting that a disrespectful outcry would never influence her decision to change the game for the DC Universe. The pair were named new heads of the studio in Octoberand have been tasked with overseeing all upcoming DC movies, TV series and animation projects.
“Our decisions for the [DC Universe] are based on what we think is best for the story [and] The best for the DC characters that have been around for almost 85 years,” he said in one thread. “Maybe these decisions are great, maybe not, but they are made with a sincere heart [and] Integrity, [and] always with the story in mind.”
