ORLANDO, Fla. – SeaWorld Orlando shared a positive update on the health of one of his dolphins, that was saved last summer at Clearwater Beach.

The baby dolphin, named Ridgway, was rescued on July 20 after being found with life-threatening injuries entangled in crab tethers. Teams from the Clearwater Marine Aquarium and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) transported the dolphin to a backstage area at SeaWorld for urgent medical attention and rehabilitation.

In recent months, SeaWorld’s animal care team said Ridgeway has fully healed from all of the injuries he sustained from the crab trap, has gained weight and length, and all of his teeth have come into his upper and lower jaws.

NOAA deemed Ridgway unreleased due to his young age. SeaWorld Orlando teams recently brought the dolphin to the theme park Dolphin Nursery Area where the public can see him while the teams continue 24/7 grooming and bottle feeding. SeaWorld said once Ridgeway starts eating fish, its bottle feeding will be phased out.

During the theme parks, guests can learn more about the care of Ridgeway Inside Look weekendswhich begins on January 7th. According to SeaWorld’s website, guests will get a glimpse into Ridgway’s daily care, his rescue and rehabilitation journey, and a unique opportunity to watch him be bottle-fed by one of our animal care specialists.

Last year, SeaWorld announced that the company had surpassed 40,000 animal rescues in its history.
