We’ve speculated for months about a possible launch date for the Samsung Galaxy S23but it seems we can now confidently circle a date for the big reveal on our 2023 calendar: Wednesday, February 1st.
Samsung didn’t come out and specifically say that date, but it did (via SamMobile (opens in new tab)) released a Galaxy Unpacked teaser for February 1st on its Colombian website. We can’t find the teaser at the time of writing, so it’s either been removed or we’re not very good at searching the Samsung Colombia portal.
While this isn’t officially official, it’s almost official. Considering that it matches with previous rumours From reliable sources pointing to the same date, we’d say it’s pretty certain that February 1st will be the date for the big reveal.
rumours, spread
If Samsung decides to unveil its latest flagships, given the scope, there probably won’t be too many surprises for us the leaks were for the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
In terms of design, it seems that it is all three phones in the series will follow the lead of the Ultra model, with raised camera lenses on the back. We were, too given an early look on the colors in which the phones will be available.
There has also been a lot of talk about camera upgrades, in particular when it comes to the Ultra model. Photos and videos captured in both good and low light conditions should be better than ever if the rumors are true.
Analysis: Samsung strikes back
When it comes to smartphone launches from high-profile tech giants, we tend to focus on Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy S – but only one of those three phones will launch earlier this year.
That puts Samsung in a different position to Apple and Google. You could say that iPhone 14 and the Pixel7 competed directly against each other because they started around the same time (September and October respectively). However, when the iPhone 14 was launched, the Samsung Galaxy S22 was already seven months old.
You can see that Samsung is always half a year ahead of its big competitors; Another perspective is that it always lags behind by half a year. At the very least, the strategy means Samsung can get plenty of attention for its flagship phones, regardless of what Apple and Google do.
We see the launch of the Galaxy S23 as Samsung lashes back at what other phone makers have been doing over the past year and sets the pace for 2023. The next question is how much upgrade over that Galaxy S22 Cell phones we will see.
