Hogwarts Legacy has announced its cast ahead of its February 10th release, including Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) as Headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black. Fans may recognize this name as one of Sirius Black’s ancestors, whose hanging portrait also appeared in Albus Dumbledore’s office in the films (Sirius Black, a popular character from the Harry Potter books, was portrayed in the film adaptations by Gary Oldman ). Pegg describes the character as the “most disliked Headmaster” in Hogwarts history, with a disinterested attitude towards his job and being an ideal role model for the students. “You know, it’s a prestigious position,” Pegg said in a behind-the-scenes featurette. “What he wants is the prestige of being the headmaster of the largest wizarding school in the world.”
Though of the same ancestry as Sirius Black, Phineas does not possess the same level of bravery or nobility – he is the opposite. “He’s just a self-serving fool” Pegg continued. In Hogwarts legacy, Phineas will serve as both a help and a hindrance to players, interrupting any ongoing quests or classes and “nullifying the player’s efforts”. As the top figure at Hogwarts, his childish behavior is not even questioned by the teachers, disputes seem to end quickly. Phineas Nigellus Black was also the last Slytherin Headmaster of Hogwarts before Professor Severus Snape took over the role after Dumbledore’s death Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. A relative blog entry notes that Phineas’ arc in the game will focus on how he got such a bad reputation in wizarding school.

Other new additions to the cast include the three-time SAG Award (Screen Actor Guild) winner. Downton Abbey, Lesley Nicole, which will portray Matilda Weasley, Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts. “As the Sorting Hat once said, ‘Another Weasley?’ We know Ron’s family is an ancient magical family dating back decades – is Matilda an ancient ancestor?” the blog reads. Luke Youngblood, who played Gryffindor Quidditch commentator Lee Jordan Harry Potter Movies returns to the franchise. With this voice actor role, he switches teams to Ravenclaw, playing Everett Clompton, who is described as an underperforming prankster. Then there is Asif Ali (don’t worry darling), attached to play another Ravenclaw student, Mahendra Pehlwaan, a Muggle-born student who is Clompton’s polar opposite and a stickler for the rules.
Netflix Heartstopper Fame Sebastian Croft plays one of the player avatar voice options while Amelia Gething (Emily) plays the female character archetype. Rounding out the cast are Kandace Caine (The Human Centipede 2) as Professor Onai and Sohm Kapila as Professor Satyavati Shah, an astronomy teacher. And finally we have Jason Anthony who plays two roles – Nearly Headless Nick and The Sorting Hat.
Set in the 19th century, long before the chosen one was born, Hogwarts legacy challenges players to create their own custom witch or wizard and embark on a whimsical adventure through the magic-laden castle, the forbidden forest and surrounding areas in an open world while battling mask-wearing dark wizards. Players can hone their skills in potions, herbalism, curses, and more, and team their player characters with allies that lead them on quests. While broomsticks can be used for general map traversal, developers avalanche software previously confirmed Quidditch will not be playable in the game.
Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10th personal computer, PS5and Xbox Series S/X. Last gen version was on PS4 and Xbox One delayed through April 4, while Nintendo switch Owners will have to wait until July 25th.
