Tampa, Fla. — Just two weeks after Buffalo Bills security’s Damar Hamlin collapsed and had to be resuscitated on the field, another sobering moment occurred in front of a prime-time audience on Monday night when Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage shot late in the Night was lifted from a stretcher during the fourth quarter of a wildcard playoff game against Dallas.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said Gage had movements in his extremities. He was taken to hospital with a concussion and checked for a neck injury.

Gage was injured when he tripped on a route, fell to the ground, failed to make the catch and received a hard shot in the neck from Donovan Wilson. He seemed to be trying to get up but couldn’t, slamming his hand on the floor in frustration.

Players from both teams knelt and prayed while medical staff tended to Gage. Tom Brady, who threw the pass to Gage, stood near the medical staff before the game resumed.

On January 2, Hamlin went into cardiac arrest after a tackle. Teammates cried as he was taken to a Cincinnati hospital by ambulance. Hamlin has made a remarkable recovery watching the Bills beat the Dolphins in an AFC wild card game from home.
