Jin Tian: Eight dead after cargo ship sinks off coast of Japan

Eight people, including several Chinese nationals, died after one Cargo ship sank in Japan’s waters, BBC News reports, citing Chinese authorities.

Rescuers have been searching for survivors since the Jin Tian sank on the evening of January 24.
Several vessels and planes belonging to the Japan Coast Guard and the military, the South Korean Coast Guard and private vessels were involved in the search.

Five rescued people are said to be in stable condition.

The Jin Tian, ​​a Hong Kong registered general cargo ship built in 2010, had a crew of 22 people. According to Lu Guijun, China’s consul-general in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, six of the dead were Chinese nationals.

Japanese authorities have yet to confirm the death toll given by Mr. Lu, but have said nine people remain missing. So far, no reason for the sinking of the ship has been given.
