According to a Lancet study, covid19 survivors are at risk of neurological and psychiatric conditions even after two years

After a corona, the risk of brain diseases increases. According to a study published in the journal The Lancet Psychiatry, Covid-19 infection is more likely to cause dementia and seizures than other respiratory tract infections. This study was conducted using the medical records of 1.25 million patients. Adults are at an increased risk of depression and anxiety for about two months after receiving corona. After this, the risk becomes as much as common infections of the respiratory system.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been mounting evidence that COVID survivors are at an increased risk of neurological and psychiatric conditions.

Previously, the same research team conducted an observational study that found Covid-19 survivors are at an increased risk of several neurological and mental health conditions in the first 6 months of infection. However, for a long time, no large amount of data has been investigated in this regard.

“This study not only confirms a previous study that the risk of certain neurological and psychiatric conditions increases in the first 6 months from Covid-19, but it also suggests that some increased risk can last up to 2 years,” said Professor Paul Harrison of Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

This study suggests that more research to determine what happens after COVID-19 and how these conditions can be treated. Over a two-year period, the researchers examined data from 14 neurological and psychiatric diagnoses from various locations in the United States.

Since January 20, 2020, the health records of millions of corona-infected people over 18 have been analyzed in the United States. These were compared to a comparable number of other respiratory tract infections.
