Top 10: Florida dominates list of deadliest US beaches

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida. – Florida showed a deadly dominance in a recently compiled list of the most dangerous beaches in the US

referencing Shark Research Institute, Inc.along with hurricane And Death in the surf zone Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the blogger at travel lens revealed late last month that Florida makes up seven of the nation’s 10 “deadliest” beaches.

There are many reasons why a particular beach could be deadly, but Travel Lens has narrowed them down to three: the number of surf zone deaths since 2010, the number of shark attacks since 2010, and the number of hurricane landfalls between 1851 and 2020.

As per the Traven Lens methodology explanation, a weighted table was used to transform the data and provide a normalized score out of 10 for each beach:

The study highlighted other aspects supported by these data; Panama City Beach, for example, has proven to be the deadliest beach for surfing in the United States, with Travel Lens noting that the best surfing conditions there often occur during hurricane season.
