Korean smart device maker Samsung said Thursday it will manufacture premium Galaxy S23 smartphones in India to meet local market demands.
The launch price of Galaxy S23 series in India ranges from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1.55 lakh each.
Currently, Galaxy S series Smartphones are made there Samsung‘s Vietnam factory and the company imports them for sale in India.
“All Galaxy S23 Smartphones sold in India are manufactured at the company’s Noida factory. Samsung already meets much of India’s domestic demand through local manufacturing at its Noida factory. Samsung’s decision to sell Galaxy S23 smartphones ‘Made in India’ demonstrates the company’s commitment to India’s manufacturing and growth history,” Samsung said in a statement.
The development comes a day after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the lifting of tariffs on camera lens imports, which is one of the key differentiators of the Galaxy S-series smartphones.
The company on Wednesday revealed three models of Galaxy S23 smartphones equipped with high-end camera sensors.
“Galaxy S23 Ultra is equipped with Samsung’s most advanced camera system, tailored to almost any lighting condition and engineered to reproduce incredible detail. The Galaxy S23 Ultra features a new 200MP Adaptive Pixel sensor that captures epic moments with incredible precision.
Samsung has doubled the capacity of the main camera sensor in the Galaxy S23 Ultra series to 200 megapixels compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra series Galaxy S22 Ultra while retaining 100x spatial zoom, as well as 10x optical and digital zoom capabilities.
The phone comes with five sets of cameras with camera sensors ranging from 12 megapixels to 200 megapixels.
Samsung has priced the Galaxy S23 series 27 to 30 percent more expensive compared to Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones.
Galaxy S22 smartphones launched last year cost between Rs. 72,999 and Rs. 1,18,999 a piece.
The company said it had booked bookings for 1.4 lakh Galaxy S22 Smartphones before the end of pre-reservations on March 10, 2022.
