Whistleblower Complaint Could Give Musk Ammunition to Exit Twitter Deal: Report

Elon Musk, a billionaire, may use the recent whistleblower lawsuit filed by Twitter’s former security chief as leverage to back out of his $44 billion purchase of the social media platform (roughly Rs. 3,51,100 crore). At this time, it is unclear if and how Musk’s team will make use of the information provided by the whistleblower. Mudge claimed in a complaint filed with the US Department of Justice (DoJ), the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that Twitter had misled regulators about the inadequate cybersecurity measures the microblogging site had in place.

According to a recent report from Reuters, Elon Musk, the billionaire, may use the recent complaint filed against Twitter by whistleblower Peiter “Mudge” Zatko to try and get out of the agreement to take Twitter private.

Even though it is unclear whether and how Musk’s team will use the whistleblower’s information, the complaint may give Musk new avenues to pursue in his legal battle, the report states.

According to Twitter’s former security chief, the company misled regulators about its security procedures for thwarting spam accounts and hackers. The Washington Post quoted Mudge as saying that Twitter had misrepresented itself as having a strong security strategy.

According to the report, the security expert also stated that the company was “forced” by the Indian government to employ one of its agents.
