Prior to her current role, Ms. Cruz worked as a certified phlebotomist technologist and medical assistant for various doctors’ offices and clinics, including Labcorp and Bio-Reference Laboratories, Inc. in 1992. Following this time, she was a certified phlebotomist technologist and critical care technician with Soundshore Medical Center in 1999 until becoming a medical surgical nurse for Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital in 2005. Later that year, she served as an emergency room nurse with St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital until 2007 and was a telemetry, medical-surgical registered nurse and charge registered nurse for the Veterans Affairs Hospital from 2006 until 2009. During this time, she also served as an emergency room nurse for the Orange Regional Medical Center in 2008.
Ms. Cruz continued her career as a registered nurse with Keller Army Community Hospital and as an intensive care unit, emergency room and post-anesthesia care unit agency nurse for Federal Staffing Resources in 2009, taking a role as a critical care transport registered nurse with the Lifestar Response Corp in 2010. At the same time, she also was a pediatric remote triage nurse with Night Nurse Inc. from 2009 until 2015 and an emergency room registered nurse with Valley Health System from 2013 until 2016.
Ms. Cruz subsequently served as a registered nurse for Crystal Run Healthcare and critical care transport registered nurse with the Atlantic Health System in 2017, becoming an urgent care triage registered nurse for Cornerstone Family Healthcare later that year. She then was a family nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics for Cornerstone Family Healthcare in 2018 and COVID-19 testing nurse practitioner with NYC Health + Hospitals in 2020. Also in 2020, she was a telehealth provider for Ready Responders and worked as an online academic coach for Herzing University from 2019 until 2022.
To prepare for her career in healthcare, Ms. Cruz earned an Associate of Arts in liberal arts from the Borough of Manhattan Community College in 2000. Following this achievement, she attained an Associate of Science in Nursing from the Dorothea Hopfer School of Nursing and Mt. Vernon Hospital in 2004 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Delhi in 2012. She subsequently gained a Master of Science in Nursing from Herzing University Online in 2018. Well-qualified in her field, she is a registered nurse and national certified phlebotomist technologist with a medical assistant certificate. She is also a certified nurse practitioner in family health with the New York State Education Department, among other credentials in her field.
Looking to the future, Ms. Cruz intends to continue making a positive difference as a nurse, taking pride in providing personalized and empathetic care to each client and building strong relationships that enable her to better understand their unique needs and concerns. Despite the difficulties that came with growing up in a single-parent household and becoming a single parent herself, she was raised with love and determination, gaining a powerful sense of advocacy for education and a firm belief that one’s background should never limit their potential for success.
