Price Increases for the PS5 Due to High Global Inflation in the UK, Canada, Australia, and Other Markets

Sony has increased PS5 prices in some markets, the company announced today. The Japanese tech giant blamed the rise in retail prices on the state of the world economy. Sony further stated that it is observing high rates of global inflation and unfavourable currency trends. In a few markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), and Canada, the retail price of the PlayStation 5 has gone up. Sony also stated that the cost of its gaming console in the US will not change. No word on whether the PS5 price in India will change. Gadgets 360 has contacted Sony for comment.

The recommended retail price (RRP) for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition has increased, according to a blog post from Sony. According to Sony, the high global inflation rate and unfavourable currency trends are to blame for the PS5 price increase.

New PlayStation 5 costs
The Blu-ray edition of the PlayStation 5 costs EUR 549.99 (about Rs. 44,000) in Europe, while the digital edition costs EUR 449.99 (about Rs. 36,000). The cost of the gaming console has gone up in the UK to GBP 479.99 (approximately Rs. 45,400) for the Blu-ray version and GBP 389.99 (approximately Rs. 36,900) for the PS5 digital version. Prior to now, the PS5 Blu-ray edition cost EUR 499.99 (about Rs. 39,900) in Europe, and the digital edition cost EUR 399.99 (about Rs. 31,200). For the Blu-ray edition, the console cost GBP 449.99 (about Rs. 42,500) in the UK, while the standard edition cost GBP 359.99. (roughly Rs. 34,000). In Europe, the cost of the Blu-ray edition has gone up by about 10%, while the cost of the digital version has gone up by about 12%. The Blu-ray edition’s price has gone up by about 7% in the UK, while the digital edition’s price has gone up by about 8%.

The new PlayStation 5 price in Japan will take effect on September 15th. The cost of Sony’s gaming console has increased to JPY 60,478 for the Blu-ray edition and JPY 49,478 for the Digital Edition (each about Rs. 35,400). According to Sony, tax is included in both prices in Japan. The price of the PS5 in China has increased to CNY 4,299 for the Blu-ray version and CNY 3,499 for the digital edition (roughly Rs. 50,100 and 40,800, respectively). The initial cost of the PS5 in Japan was JPY 49,980 (approximately Rs. 29,200) for the Blu-ray version and JPY 39,980 (approximately Rs. 23,400) for the digital version. In Japan, the cost of the Blu-ray edition has increased by about 21%, and the cost of the digital edition has increased by about 24%.

The new price for the PlayStation 5 in Australia is AUD 799.95 (about Rs 44,600) for the Blu-ray disc edition and AUD 649.95 (about Rs 36,300) for the Digital Edition. The Blu-ray PS5 edition cost AUD 749.95 (roughly Rs. 41,800) in Australia at one point, and the digital version cost AUD 599.95. (roughly Rs. 33,400). For the disc edition, the cost has gone up by about 7%, while the digital edition has seen an increase of about 8%.

For the disc edition, Sony has raised the price to MXN 14,999 (roughly Rs. 60,300), and for the digital-only version, to MXN 12,499 (roughly Rs. 50,300).

The PS5 now costs CAD 649.99 (roughly Rs. 40,200) for the disc edition and CAD 519.99 (about Rs. 32,200) for the digital edition in Canada. Previously, the digital edition cost CAD 499.99 and the PS5 Blu-ray edition cost CAD 629.99 (roughly Rs. 39,000). (roughly Rs. 30,900). The cost of the disc edition has gone up by about 3%, while the cost of the digital-only edition has gone up by about 4%.
