Here’s how Netflix plans to stop sharing passwords

Netflix announced it would begin cracking down on password sharing in the first quarter of this year. The OTT company released its quarterly results last week. The change has been tested in some countries as the streaming giant claims that users who share their Netflix accounts are reducing the company’s revenue. The company last year expressed its intention to crack down on password sharing. Netflix has now specified how it intends to help prevent users from sharing their account passwords.

according to a post one on the Netflix FAQ page Netflix The account is now only accessible to people living in a single household, and people who don’t live at the same address as the main account holder “must use their own account to watch Netflix.”

Password sharing with users outside of the subscriber’s household is becoming more and more complicated, and it is likely that an additional amount will be charged to share a single account in different locations.

If a new device linked to the primary account is in a different location, Netflix will require a temporary 4-digit verification code to be entered within 15 minutes of the access request. Access to the device at another location is granted continuously for seven days.

According to the company, users traveling with their main device will have no problem accessing Netflix in other locations. To ensure smooth Netflix access, a user must connect to WiFi from their primary location at least every 31 days.

Netflix added last year introduced a new feature called “Profile Transfer” to combat the phenomenon of account password sharing. The feature allows users who are currently sharing an account to keep personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other preferences when creating their own Netflix account.

Each plan specifies how many devices can access Netflix at the same time, and as long as they belong to members of the same household, this won’t affect your viewing experience. Netflix added that they verify devices in a household by “tracking IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices signed into the Netflix account.”
