Bengaluru-based composer Ricky Kej wins third Grammy Award

Bengaluru-based music composer Ricky Kej has won his third Grammy Award for the album Divine Tides, dedicating the honor to his native India.

The US-born musician shared the award with Stewart Copeland, drummer for legendary British rock band The Police, who had collaborated with Kej on the album.

At the 65th year Grammy Awardsthe duo received the Gramophone Trophy in the category “Best Immersive Audio Album”. They previously won a grammy last year in the Best New Age Album category for the same album.

“Congratulations on the winner of Best Immersive Audio Album – ‘Divine Tides‘Eric Schilling, immersive mix engineer; @copelandmusic, @rickykej & Herbert Waltl, immersive producers (Stewart Copeland & Ricky Kej) #GRAMMYs,” announced the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards, on their official Twitter page on Sunday evening.

Kej said he was “grateful” for the recognition.

“I just won my 3rd Grammy Award. Thank you very much, I am speechless! I dedicate this award to India. @copelandmusic. Herbert Waltl Eric Schilling Vanil Veigas Lonnie Park,” the composer captioned a series of images on his Twitter page.

Other category nominees included: Christina Aguilera (Aguilera), The Chainsmokers (Memories… Do Not Open), Jane Ira Bloom (Picturing The Invisible: Focus 1) and Nidarosdomens Jentekor & Trondeheimsolistene (Tuvahyun – Beatitudes for a Wounded World).

Divine Tides is a nine-song album that aims to convey the message that “every single life plays a vital role in maintaining the balance that serves all equally.”

Kej took home his first Grammy for Best New Age Album in 2015 for Winds of Samsara.

Copeland has won five Grammys as part of his work with The Police. With Kej on staff, this is his second award.
