GTA 6 leak affected development team emotional: report

The eighth main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is perhaps the most anticipated game in gaming history. It’s been almost a decade since Grand Theft Auto V first released on consoles, now two generations old. Rockstar Games has already confirmed that they are working hard on GTA 6, but there is no word on the release date. Last year, eagerly awaiting fans got an unauthorized glimpse of the upcoming game when a leak revealed footage in development of the next GTA. The leak, which covered GTA 6’s gameplay, characters, and open-world setting, sparked concerns about the impact it could have on the game’s publishers. Around the time of its most recent earnings report, which fell slightly short of its target, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive said the leak hadn’t impacted its business.

Speaking to IGN, take two Managing Director Strauss Zelnick called The leak is an “emotional matter” and not a business one. “We take leaks really seriously and they disappoint us all, it’s really frustrating and annoying for the team,” said Zelnick. “We are not affected by this from a business point of view. But personally and emotionally our teams are affected.”

Rockstar Games suffered one in September last year massive leakwhich revealed gameplay footage in development GTA6. The leak, which surfaced on a popular GTA forum, consisted of over 90 videos showing two playable characters, Lucia and Jason, all of which confirmed that the next Grand Theft Auto will have a female protagonist.

Videos from the leak went viral on multiple social media platforms as Take-Two Interactive began filing copyright claims to remove the footage. At the time, Rockstar issued a statement saying they were “extremely disappointed” that details of their next game would be shared in this way.

Early last year, after years of speculation, Rockstar Games finally announced that they were working on the next major edition of GTA. “We are pleased to confirm that active development is underway for the next installment in the series,” the studio said called in an online post last February.

years after publication, GTA5 remains as lucrative as ever, and the game is still selling like hot cakes. According to the IGN report, the game has sold a total of 175 million copies based on last quarter’s sales.
