Keanu Reeves-Led Constantine Sequel Still in Work: Report

A Keanu Reeves-led Constantine sequel is reportedly still in development. According to Entertainment Weekly, a spokesman for Warner Bros. Discovery assured that Constantine 2 had not been scrapped. Reports from last year indicated that Reeves was reuniting with original director Francis Lawrence for a new installment as the magical exorcist based on DC Comics’ Hellblazer comic. The project was never mentioned during DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn’s presentation earlier this month, which aims to create a coherent DC universe that is interconnected across films, TV series, animation and games.

The EW report does not mention recurring actors such as Rachel Weisz, although it has previously been suggested that Akiva Goldsman (Batman & Robin) was included to write the screenplay and produce the constantine Consequence. The original 2005 film starred The Occult Expert (reeves) teams up with a police officer to solve the mystery behind a suicide, with the investigation taking them through the realms of demons and angels. At the moment there’s also no word on a release window or plot details, but fans can rest easy knowing online that it’s just because it wasn’t mentioned Gunns Panic, it hadn’t been cancelled. That said Gunn hinted that anyone DC comics Projects outside of his main line DC universe can still coexist under the umbrella of ‘Elseworlds’. This includes, of course, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Universe, Todd Phillips’ jokerand Teen Titans GO!

Titled “Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters,” co-CEOs Gunn and Peter Saffron laid out new plans for the DC Universe that will begin as soon as the old regime films get their theatrical release. This contains Shazam! wrath of the gods, Aquaman and the Lost KingdomAnd The Lightning – The last of these will reset the entire timeline, making room for new characters and stories to unfold. The phase begins with an animated series for creature commands, which reveals that characters are constantly coming and going in animation and live-action projects, with the same actor(s) providing the voice and starring in each. This is followed by television series called catfishand then the “true beginning of the DCU” – Superman: Legacywho will explore the story of a younger one superman. Henry Cavillwho appeared as a Kryptonian hero in Zack Snyders movies, announced his return on the roll in October. However, things changed when Gunn came on board and wanted to explore a recent history.

Other projects in the lineup include a swamp thing Origin Movie, which is canonically set in the same dark fantastical universe as Constantines. Although it is unclear where the Continuation of Constantine landed, Gunn suggested he had more projects in store for us. Whether he intends to connect this universe to his vision DCU, only time can tell. Meanwhile, Reeves will next be seen in his role as a professional hitman John Wick: Chapter 4whose publication is planned next month.
