Star Wars Jedi: Survivor just received new gameplay footage courtesy of IGN. The nine-minute video offers a look at the new planet, Koboh, where our protagonist, Cal Kestis (Cameron Monaghan), crashed early in the game. Combat sequences against beasts and foot soldiers are shown in full, along with new changes to the Telekinetic Power skill and the Dual Wield ability. Originally slated for a March release, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was pushed back to April 28 earlier this month, with developer Respawn Entertainment using the extra time to ensure a polished experience.

The lengthy gameplay footage avoids spoiler territory and simply takes us on a journey through the rocky planet of Koboh. After surveying the area with his BD-1 droid’s built-in scope/binoculars and planting a beacon, Kestis heads into the wilderness to find a way to repair the ship. Known movesets from the prequel, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderlike wall-running returns, but survivor Expands these traversal options with a grappling hook and an air dash. The combat borrows heavily from the previous game, with our hero confronting a multitude of droids carrying grenades and stronger guards with an electric staff. As mentioned above, Kestis can now wield lightsabers while dual wielding, unlike the previous iteration where he could only use it for a brief second. This is all thanks to the new stances that have been added Star Wars: Jedi Survivor.

Force abilities have also evolved, which Kestis can do now Throw enemies into the air and keep them afloat before activating the next turn. Previously these were limited to pull and push, the latter being a helpful tool for knocking all incoming grenades back at enemies. While not specifically mentioned, the icons in the bottom left corner of the screen seem to indicate that players can switch between two of the five “stances” at the same time. According to footage, players can choose between a dual bladed light option and a heavy attack that feels similar to Kylo Ren’s Crossguard style. In the first case, Kestis combines the ends of his lightsaber into a long, double-edged staff that can be spun around to also block/deflect incoming projectiles. Related to Sekiro: Shadows die twicethere also seems to be a finishing blow mechanic that plays a unique kill animation depending on the enemy type.

The footage also shows a fight against a mini boss where we can see how fluid the movements are. As before, you can telekinetically pull rocks in and throw them straight into bestial beings to stagger them for a second. There’s also a sneak peek of a stealth segment where our hero executes a ledge before he’s seen destroying another guard. The looting system lets you rely on your adorable droid unlocking crates to grant new outfits and items. As with the original, the world itself is littered with meditation points that basically work like dark souls’ Bonfires where players can save progress, recover diseases, and upgrade abilities.

Speak with GamesRadarlast week, director Stig Asmussen confirmed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will streamline traversal options with a fast travel option. “We will be offering both fast travel and rideable creatures to help players get from point A to point B and back to point A quickly,” he explained. “Fast travel is point-to-point, and the rideable creatures provide a way to quickly negotiate between points and explore what lies in between.” Gameplay footage from IGN did not cover the fast travel system. However, since these games lean heavily towards the soul-like formula, it’s not far-fetched to assume that meditation points will serve as fast travel points. However, this is only my speculation as more details on this should be announced in time.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is scheduled for release on April 28th personal computer, PS5And Xbox Series S/X.
