Anyone who has ever lost or damaged their car key knows how expensive and time consuming it can be to replace it. However, many people are unaware that every new key for a car or van sold in the last 20 years must be programmed onto their vehicle before use, making their key replacement even more complicated. In most cases, the vehicle owner has a spare key that they can use temporarily. However, not replacing the lost or damaged car key still carries a risk. If the second key is subsequently damaged or lost, all of the vehicle’s locks may need to be replaced, resulting in even greater expense. Even with a trade-in, the value of the car is very likely to be affected if there is only one key.
KeyNOW by Timpson has launched the first website in the UK to order replacement car keys online. This service is designed to provide a cheaper alternative to visiting the vehicle’s main dealer. Keynow.com also claims to introduce several new technological innovations to make car and van key replacement easier and cheaper. This includes a new-to-market “pair-it-yourself” key programmer. Additionally, specially designed decryption software allows customers to order a replacement car key by simply uploading a quick photo of their key from any smartphone camera. KeyNOW is claiming savings of up to 60% off main retailer key replacement prices for its new service offerings.
Keynow.com allows vehicle owners to locate their vehicle and then select from a range of different service options. After ordering the new key, the following services can be selected:
Pair it yourself – A re-cut key comes with the newly launched KeyNOW pairing device. This handheld programmer allows car owners to easily pair their new keys to their vehicle themselves. Prices start from just £99 for a new key and programmer combined.
You come to us – Customers can choose to have their new key delivered to a local Timpson store. They can then arrange to have their new key paired to their car by a trained Timpson technician in store.
We will come to you For ultimate convenience, a KeyNOW technician will personally deliver a new key and pair it with the vehicle. Customers can pre-book the service online for a time and place that suits them.
Phil Moss, Managing Director of KeyNOW explains: “Replacing car and van keys has been costly and confusing for too long. Our online key replacement service offers full transparency with no hidden additional costs. Keynow.com allows vehicle owners to choose a price and service level that suits them. Most importantly, the process is quick, easy and far less expensive than traditional key replacement options.”
