Global smartphone production fell 11 percent in the third quarter of 2022: Trendforce

Global smartphone production declined in Q3 2022. The industry reportedly produced 289 million units from July to September, down 0.9 percent quarter-on-quarter from 307 million units in Q2. On an annual basis, the decline is around 11 percent. While Samsung has maintained its status as a top manufacturer, Apple is second with high production units. Xiaomi and Oppo are the third and fourth companies with the highest production units.

according to a report According to the market research company Trendforce, the smartphone market was characterized by extremely weak demand in the third quarter. Samsung reportedly recorded production of nearly 64.2 million units, up 3.9 percent sequentially.

However, the Korean smartphone maker is expected to experience a QoQ decline in the current quarter as it scales back production to sell devices already made.

Except for the quarterly increase Samsung was also a leader in the foldable smartphone market that year. The global foldable smartphone market is estimated at 1.1 percent this year, and Samsung is reported to hold a 90 percent market share. In 2023, foldable phones are expected to account for 1.5 percent of the global smartphone market, and Samsung is predicted to have a nearly 80 percent share in this segment, according to the report.

According to Samsung, Apple ranks second in the list with a share of 17.6 percent. The Cupertino-based tech giant reportedly produced nearly 50.8 million units in the third quarter of 2022.

Other phone companies that made it into the top 5 list of highest smartphone production include Xiaomi, Oppo and live in third, fourth and fifth place.

xiaomi reportedly had a 13.1 percent share of global smartphone production with its sub-brands Redmi, pokoand black shark.

In the meantime, oppo and OnePlus held an 11.6 percent stake. According to the report, Vivo has an 8.5 percent market share in smartphone production.
