Google has started rolling out the January 2023 update to Pixel phones, which also includes the January 2023 Android security patch. The update will be rolled out gradually to Pixel devices running Android 13 over the coming weeks. Users will receive a notification when the OTA update is available for eligible Pixel phones. This update adds spatial audio support for Pixel phones, allowing them to offer surround sound with any supported accessory. This update also includes some other general fixes.
Google announced on Wednesday that it has started rolling out the January 2023 update to Pixel devices. This update brings spatial audio support for the Pixel6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel7and Pixel 7 Pro. This feature was before sighted in the beta update for Android 13 QPR1. This technology is designed to capture audio signals and apply directional filters to create an immersive soundscape. The company has announced that it will soon be rolling out an update for the Pixel Buds Pro to enable spatial audio support with head tracking.
Spatial audio is reportedly only supported by devices compatible with Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) audio. With this update, Google fixed an issue that was “preventing certain Bluetooth Low Energy devices or accessories from pairing or reconnecting”. Another issue that prevented audio from playing through certain headphones has also been fixed.
The January 2023 update also brings further improvements to fingerprint recognition and response times Pixel 6a and Pixel 7. Another bug that forced the smartphone to switch to landscape mode while being held in portrait mode has also been fixed.
The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro also got a few more fixes with this update. Enlarged photos no longer appear corrupted or distorted due to the included camera fix. Also fixed a bug that caused the device not to wake up when turned on.
