Google Pixel 6a certainly stepped up a notch in terms of design and processing power over the previous Pixel 4a, which was the last device to launch in India at the time. While the Pixel 6a featured notable upgrades over its predecessor, it still lacked some features, having been rated as a premium device when it launched in India. From the leaks so far, we have enough evidence that the upcoming Pixel 7a exists. Detailed renders and leaked specs also suggest the phone will make up for last year’s shortcomings. The latest leak aims to give us our first official look at the Pixel 7a. Someone seems to have gotten their hands on a device and even gotten details about RAM and storage.
Zing News claims to have gotten the “world’s first hands-on Google Pixel 7a.” The source shows crystal clear photos of the yet-to-be-launched smartphone in their report. At first glance, the phone seems very similar to the currently available Pixel 7. There are photos of the back, top and bottom, all of which look eerily similar to the Pixel 7. These also match up very nicely to previous renders of the Pixel 7a leaked from another source.
The back reveals a camera module that appears to be an upgrade over the Pixel 6a’s glass and plastic camera bump, which was notorious for gathering dust due to its design. The new camera module appears to be made from a single piece of metal, stretching from edge to edge and blending seamlessly into the frame on either side, as on the Pixel7. The camera module and the frame appear matt.
The source also makes it clear that the device has a metal frame sandwiched between two sheets of glass, as opposed to the plastic back panel used on the Pixel 6a. It also claims that the camera module is made of metal, similar to the Pixel 7’s camera module. Oddly enough, the source claims that the device will have dual 12-megapixel cameras, contradicting claims in a previous leak that one of the rear cameras would use a 64-megapixel Sony sensor.
According to the leak, the handset only has one physical SIM slot and comes with an IP67 rating. The phone in the picture would not turn on, but accessing Fastboot indicated that it packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While the 128GB of storage isn’t a big deal, the increased RAM certainly puts this Pixel on par with other mid-range and premium devices like that Pixel 4a And Pixel 6a offered 6GB of RAM.
The handset appears to have been locked by Google, but its previous owner confirmed that the phone’s display had a 90Hz screen refresh rate. However, the display appears to have the same thick bezels as before, suggesting it could be the same panel with the previously proven 90Hz refresh rate enabled.
While all the leaks are pointing to the smartphone being an actual Pixel 7a unit, we can’t be sure until Google announces the same thing, so we ask our readers to take the above information with a spoonful of salt. Previous leaks of the Pixel 7a have suggested the phone will be powered by Google’s Tensor G2 processor and that the phone would also feature wireless charging. The design of the phone was previously indicated in a leaked hands-on video.
