Samsung had previously received severe backlash when it was discovered that its Game Optimizing Service (GOS) was throttling the performance of the Galaxy S22 series. Samsung later reportedly had to issue an update that would allow users to manually disable this feature. This feature has now also been discovered in the Galaxy S23. In addition, Samsung’s latest flagship also comes with a new charge bypass function for games. This feature might be ideal for gamers who intend to pay extra attention to their battery.

According to an Android authority reportThe Galaxy S23 Series includes GOS Performance Toggle. This function appears to be identical to the one received from Toggle Galaxy S22 models after reports popped up, suggesting that GOS is responsible for throttling system performance when gaming or other chipset-intensive tasks.

The exact impact of the GOS feature on Galaxy S23 phones is currently unknown. Specifically the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+And Galaxy S23 Ultra are powered by an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. However, a newer one report indicates that these smartphones are equipped with an increased heat dissipation surface. GOS performance could have simply been carried over from the previous generation, or Samsung could have left it to pre-emptively quell any controversy resembling last year’s debacle. We can confirm that its toggle exists as it was spotted on both our Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra test devices.

In related news, a Sammobile report shows that the Galaxy S23 comes with a new charge bypass option. The Pause USB Power Delivery feature included in the Game Booster settings reportedly allows users to directly power the chipset. The handset battery is reportedly not charging while this feature is enabled. It is also designed to prevent the heat generated when charging a battery from affecting performance.

When the function is activated, the battery is not charged, which would shorten the battery charge cycles and have a positive effect on the health of the battery in the long term. The report mentions that the Galaxy S23 consumes only 6W of power with the charge bypass option turned on. However, it is said to consume 17W of power under normal use. We could not identify the battery bypass function in our test devices.
