Samsung Galaxy Store receives security update: download instructions

Samsung has released an app update for the Galaxy Store to address vulnerabilities that could allow potentially malicious sources to install apps without a user’s permission. According to reports, two vulnerabilities in the Galaxy Store have been discovered by a research team. These vulnerabilities only affect phones running Android 12 or lower. Android 13 users are not affected. Users can open the Galaxy Store on their phones and download and install the latest Galaxy Store app version 4.5.49.8.

In addition, they even launch an attacker-controlled web view. Notably, these vulnerabilities only affect Galaxy phones running Android 12, while Android 13 supported phones are safe.

To fix these errors, Samsung has rolled out an updated version of the Galaxy Store app (version 4.5.49.8). Users can go to the Galaxy Store settings on their phones and download and install the latest version of the app. Samsung has classified the above vulnerabilities as medium risks.

The Galaxy Store was reported to proliferate malicious apps that demand excessive permissions including access to the phone, even earlier. In December 2021, various Showbox movie piracy app clones available on the Galaxy Store were discovered infecting devices with malware. Tipster Max Weinbach reported a similar issue previously discovered on Huawei phones. He shared that Showbox-based app installs from the Galaxy Store were stopped by Google’s Play Protect warning. At least five of the Showbox-based apps were infected with dangerous malware.
