OnePlus, Realme and Oppo devices running Android 12 or later can now record calls without an on-call disclaimer via a downloadable dialer app called ODialer. The app, developed by Oppo’s ColorOS and released on January 16th, is currently only available on the Google Play Store for users of the eligible devices of the smartphone brands mentioned above. The call recording feature in standard dialer apps will trigger a voice ban if turned on during a call, which the latest app can avoid.

Android Phones were generally seen shipping their smartphones with a version of their own default dialer applications, or with the google phone App loaded as default dialer. However, Oppo seems to want to change that with the brand ColorOS team listed as the developer of the ODialer app Google play store.

ODialer also includes a speed dial feature that allows users to easily contact their most important contacts. The Oppo ColorOS ODialer app requires Android 12 and higher and has the version number 13.1.5. The dialer also has a dark mode.

According to the app’s “About” section on the Google Play Store, it has a call management feature that allows users to organize recent calls into groups. However, the main feature of the app remains the support of call recording without a readiness exclusion announcement.

The voice recording feature on stock Android dialer apps generally has a disclaimer prompt saying “This call is now being recorded,” which may put some call recipients off. ODialer seems to solve this problem by removing the disclaimer entirely and allowing for covert call recording. The app could therefore also raise privacy concerns.

The app is currently rated 3.8 out of 5 in the Google Play Store, with reviews suggesting that the current version of the app has many bugs.

However, a Gadgets360 employee was also able to verify the functionality of the app’s stealth call recording feature on a OnePlus device.
