google photos is reportedly getting an overhauled UI for the editing tools on tablets and larger screens. The app’s layout, shown on tablets and in landscape mode, is just a stretched version of the app’s interface. However, leaked images of Google Photos’ new layout have surfaced online, showing a more user-friendly design. Editing tools have been rearranged to make them more accessible. Currently, Google Photos displays its editing tools below.

According to a Twitter thread by @Nail_Sadykov, editor of the Google News Telegram channel, Google Photos is testing a new layout for tablets and devices with larger screens. The upcoming redesigned user interface of Google Photos for tablets has also been published on the Google News Telegram channel. The user interface makes the editing tools easily accessible on larger displays.

The revamped design will reportedly feature the editing tools in a side panel on the right, while the edited photos will appear on the left. As of now, Google Photos editing tools are shown below. However, no changes will be made to the existing tools as such.

Google Photos offers a range of editing tools including enhance, crop, rotate, eraser and color adjustments. The new layout makes it easier for users to navigate the image and zoom in and out. In particular, the new layout does not apply when photos are used in portrait format. It’s currently available in the latest version of the Google Photos app, but hidden from regular users. We don’t have details on when it will be widely available.

At the beginning of March, Google was reported Working on a new Video Unblur feature for Google Photos that will allow users to blur videos through smart sharpening and noise reduction. The feature is initially said to be powered by the machine learning capabilities of Google’s in-house Tensor chipsets, and later expanded to other phones. Google has introduced machine learning-based image processing features like the Magic Eraser tool in Google Photos for the Pixel 6 series. The tool allows users to erase objects from the image as well as change the color or brightness of objects in the image.
