Apex Legends season 16 is upon us, and before that, Respawn Entertainment revealed some new changes to the game. For the first time ever, the new season will not introduce a new hero/character to the game. Instead, the studio is adding the much-requested Team Deathmatch mode, which pits six players against each other in high-stakes battles. The new season, titled Revelry, will also overhaul the classes for its Legends, adding a new Energy class weapon called Nemesis. Apex Legends Season 16 launches on February 14th across all major platforms.
Team Deathmatch, similar to valuable limited time modes in Apex Legends, will be accessible in the first three weeks of the new season. acc kotaku, the new game mode will be similar to deathmatches in other games – with no downtime, with quick respawns as players rack up kills for their team. With six players on each side, the first team to get 30 kills wins the round. It’s a best-of-three scenario where winning two rounds will lead your team to victory. At the beginning of the game, players can choose a loadout that includes a bunch of weapons in addition to a grenade. However, if your team is at a disadvantage, you can switch between heroes at will – similar to over watch – and use their abilities to your advantage.
That said respawn entertainment removes the Arena game mode Apex Legends. “Apex Legends is a battle royale at its core and the team wants to help players master the core game mode and in its current state, Arenas falls short of our goals,” he said blog entry reads. The idea behind the integration of non-battle royale modes into Apex Legends is to introduce new players to the game’s core loop, which involves switching between weapons, characters, and abilities, knowledge of which can then be carried over to the main game . Otherwise, you would see most new players being absolutely rolled by veteran players within minutes of landing on the map.
Respawn also features a rotating playlist for limited-time events. Dubbed Mixtape, the new feature is due out in early March and will allow players to choose from a rotation of TDM, Gun Run and Control modes – intense situations with little downtime. A new weapon – Nemesis – is also coming in, but the studio hasn’t revealed much beyond confirming that it’s energy-based.
As already mentioned, in season 16 the developer breaks with tradition and does not release a new hero. Instead, the team is revamping their class system, assigning each legend to one of them. There are currently five classes: Assault, Recon, Controller, Skirmisher, and Support. “Each class will now have a meaningful, unique perk – whether it’s the way a Legend can interact with new loot containers or new ways to revive teammates,” the blog reads. Previously, all 23 characters from the list were classified as Offensive, Defensive, Recon, and Support. More information on this will be announced in due time, according to Respawn.
Season 16 of Apex Legends – Revelry – starts on February 14th personal computer, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox OneAnd Xbox Series S/X. Earlier this month, the studio announced that it shuts down the mobile version.
