Gameplay footage from the China-discontinued Assassin’s Creed Mobile, codenamed Jade, has apparently been leaked online. The series of shots is said to be from an alpha test for the mobile game, which some players were said to have gained access to before publisher Ubisoft stepped in and stopped accepting signups. The footage in question was allegedly shot on an iPhone and offers a first look at the initial setup, native gameplay, combat and a cutscene. As revealed during September’s Ubisoft Forward event, Assassin’s Creed Mobile gamers will be able to create their own custom character, codenamed Jade, with the leak showing just how deep these customizations are.

If the leaked footage is to be believed, Assassin’s Creed Mobile first lets you choose between a male or female preset, which you can further customize to your liking. Since the game originated in ancient China in 215 B.C. BC, the hairstyles should be tailored to this time. While there aren’t sliders to fine-tune your look, the game offers a handful of pre-rendered options to choose from – hairstyle, eyebrow shape, eye color, facial makeup, and facial hair. That Assassin’s Creed Jade Leaked footage places us in the snowy regions of the village of Yongning, which we must protect from a group of invaders. The gameplay feels similar to the current RPG Assassin’s Creed Entries, with a large map, parkour elements, target markers and an autorun feature tailored for mobile users.

During combat, enemies are adorned with a health bar above their heads that decreases with each hit and displays corresponding damage numbers. There also seems to be a leveling system – our protagonist once fights a level 40 enemy whose health bar takes a while to completely empty. There seems to be a lot of hand-holding, however, as Assassin’s Creed Jade gives players instructions on which ledge to jump onto, which enemy to eliminate first, and flashing gold indicators for all outdoor loot crates – taking away the point of exploration. Stealth segments are similar to the mainline titles, featuring backstabs and ledge takedowns, as well as some special moves/weapon arts that are on a cooldown. AC Mobile’s leaked footage also shows a boss fight – camera angles appear to be inspired by it Spirit of Tsushima — Cutscenes without dialogue audio and general traversal.

Since the teaser reveal Ubisoft has kept a low profile on Assassin’s Creed Jade, which marks the first entry in the franchise to transition to mobile devices. At that time also the publisher unveiled a cinematic trailer for the Baghdad set Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which focuses on stealth, assassination, and parkour – traits that originally defined the series before it was transformed into an open-world RPG. Then there is a feudal Assassin’s Creed Red in Japan and a darker Assassin’s Creed witch set during the 16th century witch trials.

Ubisoft also has plans to create a central hub that will connect all upcoming titles into a single Animus-like experience. They call it Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

There is currently no release window for Assassin’s Creed Jade expected to release on mobile. That iOS Version is more or less confirmed thanks to the leak mentioned above.
