elden ring has finally received its long promised ray tracing update thanks to Patch 1.09. The feature is live now on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, with renowned Dark Souls Modder Lance McDonald confirms that it’s unfortunately limited to ray-traced shadows and ambient occlusion. While the Elden Ring settings menu contains a ray tracing Toggle, there are no options for Nvidia DLSS or AMD’s upscaling options to ensure better frame rates when gaming on high-fidelity graphics settings. There’s also no ray-traced reflections and most visible changes are only seen outdoors, eliminating glowing edges on nearby rocks.

McDonald, who became famous through Create the much needed bloodborne 60fps mod, notes that the PS5 Ray tracing patch is larger and comes in at 5GB while the personal computer Update is only 200 MB in size. That’s because the PS5 version comes with precompiled shaders that are ready to use once you download and install them. On the PC however elden ring need to compile/install shaders on first launch after downloading the update – which is common in most modern PC games. Still nothing compared to Hogwarts legacy on the PC, which compiles shaders at every start. BySoftware is aware of the lack of upscaling options and therefore lists a resolution of 1080p as the limit in the recommended system requirements. Anything beyond that could potentially slow down your experience.

Here are the ray tracing system requirements for Elden Ring from the publisher Bandai Namco:

Minimum requirements for the Elden Ring Ray Tracing PC

  • Operating system: windows 10
  • Processor (CPU): intel Core i5-10600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
  • Graphics (GPU): NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX6700XT (12GB)
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 pixels at low quality – Low Ray Tracing

Elden Ring recommended ray tracing PC requirements

  • Operating system: Windows11
  • Processor (CPU): Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT
  • Graphics (GPU): Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (16GB)
  • Memory: 16GB
  • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with high quality – High Ray Tracing

Elden Rings Patch 1.09 also brings several balance adjustments to the game, ranging from scaling in online PvP to changes to several Ashes of War. You can read the entire patch log on the official site Bandai Namco website. The company previously dropped a joke infographic revealed that players had died together over 9 billion times in Elden Ring, with the main culprits being damage from enemies, fatalities, status effects, and online PvP. The stats also showed that players attempted boss fights nearly 6 billion times, of which 329 million were Malenia, Blade of Miquella alone.

A few days after celebrating its one-year anniversary, FromSoftware announced the first major expansion for Elden Ring – shadow of the earth tree, which is currently being developed for all platforms. At the time, we also got teaser art of a dimly lit scene featuring a mysterious blonde figure riding Torrent – our in-game steed – and gazing far into the distance at two intertwined trees, casting shadows and oozing some golden sap. The character is believed to be Miquella, brother of the Empyrean goddess Malenia, who was cursed to remain a child forever. Bandai Namco also confirmed last month that Elden Ring was sold over 20 million copies since its launch in February 2022.

Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4PS5, Xbox OneAnd Xbox Series S/X. The ray tracing update feature is not available on the PS4 and Xbox One versions.
