Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s genre-bending video game, will be filmed. The acclaimed game director is collaborating with executive producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios – best known for the recent Barbarian film – to develop an adaptation of said title. As the first feature film from Kojima Productions, it will introduce “new elements and characters” to the Death Stranding universe. There are currently no details on the film’s writers, directors, or stars, though the report mentions that it’s “in the fast lane and development is underway.” And the Death Stranding movie could potentially get a sequel too, as Death Stranding 2 – for PS5 – is currently in the works at Kojima Productions.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios,” kojima said meeting. “This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really excited to be working with them death stranding to the big screen.” While plot details for this new entry are still under wraps, the original 2019 game Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus), a courier tasked with bringing together the last survivors of a post-apocalyptic America. There’s a lot to unpack here, beginning with an open door linked to the land of the dead, from where hostile visitors frequent the world of the living. Then there’s a bottle baby – or BB – who helps spot said tar-infested BTs (enemies) so you can hide around them while a mysterious beach becomes inundated with dead aquatic life. However, much of the gameplay focuses on walking and delivering items, with lengthy cinematics serving as stopping points and providing context to the universe.
death stranding also featured a stunning cast that featured both voice acting and motion capture. In addition to Reedus, the cast was also part of it Lea Seydoux as fragile, Mads Mikkelsen as Clifford Unger, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro as Deadman, Nicolas Winding Refn as Heartman, Margaret Qualley as Mama/Lockne, Troy Baker as Higgs and Tommie Earl Jenkins as Die Hardman. If the film features some characters from the game, I’m hoping that some name and dialogue changes will be tweaked so they don’t sound too cheesy to mainstream audiences – Die Hardman, for example. Also the infamous line: “I’m fragile, but not that fragile.”
“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to work with the brilliant and legendary Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation.” Lebovici added. “Unlike other big-budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something much more intimate and down-to-earth. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when given creative and artistic freedom. This movie will be an authentic ‘Hideo Kojima’ production.” It’s funny that he’s been saying that ever since metal gears The series creator is notorious for plastering his name all over his projects.
In the meantime, Kojima Productions celebrates its seventh anniversary for which its lead role has released a video messagepromises a brand new game in addition to Death Stranding 2, and some “visual projects”. The former could possibly refer to his Cooperation with Xbox, while the latter could be the film mentioned above. “I hope to bring you more information on all of these subjects over the next year,” he said.
The director announced Death Stranding 2 last week, as part of The game awards 2022, with a trailer he claims is full of clues for fans to discover. From the short footage we can confirm that Fragile (Seydoux) has healed from the Timefall torture, Bridges (Reedus) has aged and there is a new villain honing the guitar, presumably played by Baker, who is also BB’s theme in the trailer sang. In an onstage interview immediately afterwards, Kojima confirmed that the COVID-19 The pandemic prompted him to rewrite the entire script for the sequel. Death Stranding 2 Also Adds Elle Fanning (The great) and Shioli Kutsuna (dead pool 2) to cast.
