A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game based on The Last Ronin graphic novel series is reportedly in development. In an interview with Polygon, Doug Rosen, Senior VP of Games and Emerging Media at Paramount Global, promised that the upcoming third-person single-player action game will be similar to Sony PlayStation’s recent one God of War Title. The AAA title, like the comic book series, is aimed at an adult audience and is “a few years away” from publication, currently in development by an unnamed studio. There’s also no word on a platform, but we can safely assume it’ll be coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.

For the uninitiated, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was a five-issue miniseries set in a desolate, futuristic, battle-ravaged New York where three of the four Ninja Turtles have been killed. The lone survivor then embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission to seek revenge for his lost family by donning a black mask and wielding the weapons of the fallen – dual katanas, sai, nunchaku and bo staff. The Turtle’s identity becomes apparent until the final pages of issue #1, when he faces off against Shredder’s grandson. Just like the graphic novel, the upcoming video game will play with him as the central and only character, although his brothers might be playable in flashback sequences. With the titular Ronin wielding his brothers’ weapons, we can expect the game to let us switch between them at any time.

roses Also didn’t give a developer name, but believes he’s found the “right partner” for the video game adaptation of The Last Ronin while maintaining AAA quality. He also suggested that there are opportunities for multiple TMNT Games aimed at both younger and older audiences. The gaming franchise has seen a resurgence of late thanks to the acclaimed beat ’em up TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, where you can team up with six other players to defeat the Foot Clan, Triceraton Warriors and more. A collection of retro-themed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games called The Cowabunga Collection was also released last year, stirring up nostalgia among longtime fans.

Meanwhile, the pizza-loving, crime-fighting turtles are ready to star in a new animated film – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos. Directed by Jeff Rowe (Disenchantment), the film features stylized art and animation playing around at similar frame rates Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, chronicling the lives of the four leading Ninja Turtles as they make their way to the surface to capture the hearts of New Yorkers. While the Turtles themselves are voiced by teenage actors, the supporting cast includes big names such as Jackie Chan (rush hour), Seth Rogen (Superbad), Ayo Edebiri (The bear), Giancarlo Esposito (breaking Bad), Maya Rudolf (Liquorice Pizza), and more.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is still in early development and will likely be released on personal computer, PS5And Xbox Series S/X. Rosen has promised more information in the “coming months and years.”
