Project Drone Galaxy, the upcoming Metaverse game from Drone Racing League (DRL), has gotten a new trailer. The DRL has partnered with the Algorand blockchain to launch a game in the Metaverse, allowing players to build their own drones and compete in high-profile racing arenas in a fully-functional virtual universe. Founded in 2015 by Nicholas Horbaczewski, the DRL is a real competition held every year in which professional pilots compete in identically customized drones for rewards and awards.
The league has released an official trailer video featuring glimpses of the multiplayer game, which will go live later in the year. DRL is yet to announce a release date for Project Drone Galaxy. AlgorandA green blockchain was chosen to power the game, created by Metaverse infrastructure developer Playground Labs.
“Our fans are avid drone and blockchain enthusiasts, and we are gearing up to launch Project Drone Galaxy powered by Algorand this year. The Drone Racing League is made for that Web3‘ Gianutsos said in a prepared statement.
Annie Marie Gianutsos, DRL’s chief marketing officer, said when announcing Project Drone Galaxy that the league was essentially “made for Web3”.
“Players will build their own drones, compete for digital collectibles, and fight as animal avatars against barriers, boosts, and highly competitive pilots to win. DRL is creating a new era of sport that will bring high-speed competitions in real life, virtual simulation and the Metaverse,” said DRL.
The game will be accessible on different platforms including PlayStation, Xbox, steam and Epic Games.
Games are also streamed live on a number of social platforms youtube and Facebook.
the metaverse, a virtual work ecosystem, allows people to exist as avatars in a digital reality. They can meet, work, purchase and engage with digital collectibles, and enjoy hyper-real virtual experiences in the metaverse.
The market opportunity for the Metaverse could reach $800 billion over the next two years recommend estimate.
The technology is being touted as the next milestone for the video game industry, which in itself is a profitable mammoth.
As for Algorandthis is another significant partnership after Italian and Indian government agencies have teamed up with blockchain for official projects.
“Video games segment revenue is expected to reach US$221.40 billion in 2023. The number of users is expected to reach 2,776.9 million users by 2027. User penetration is expected to reach 34.9 percent by 2027.” Statista estimates.
