Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is getting a playable demo later this month. In a tweet, development team Ninja confirmed that a snippet of their upcoming fantasy Souls-like title will be available to play for free starting February 24th. On the occasion of the second demo for the game, all save data and progress from this version will be carried over to the full purchase on all platforms. As an added bonus, completing the demo grants players the Crouching Dragon Helmet DLC in the final game. While this may seem like a bargain at first, remember that these games – successors to Nioh – are praised for their high level of difficulty, which will likely test your mettle. Luckily, no time limits are mentioned on how long you can play it.
In Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty, you are thrown into a dark, fantastical version of later Han Dynasty China, plagued by demonic monsters that are bringing the prosperous empire to its collapse. You play as a nameless militiaman in the midst of chaos to defeat deadly creatures and enemy foot soldiers in melee combat. Following on from her previous Nioh game series, learning how to parry/deflect attacks is very beneficial here as it creates opportunities for counterattacks. BySoftware Veterans can compare this experience Sekiro: Shadows die twicewhere simply blocking enemy attacks leads to slow, drawn out combat.

Of course, all movesets are associated with some form of elemental attack, which is determined by which “phase” or combat style you choose at the beginning of the game. Fire stands for lethal attacks, water for stealth, earth for defense, wood for support, and metal for debuffs. Depending on which phase you choose, Wo Long: The Fallen Dynasty Assigns exclusive stats, magic, gear, and a Divine Beast that aids you in battle with passive perks. A new addition to Team Ninjas Formula is a “morale” system that initially appears as a difficulty level that hovers over the enemy’s heads, helping you gauge whether or not to engage in combat. Higher numbers represent stronger enemies, and the same goes for your character. However, in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, death causes the enemy to steal your morale and make them more powerful.
However, to make the journey easier for newcomers, the world is filled with flagpoles that basically act as campfires or checkpoints where you can level up your characters and reset all diseases. Earlier this week, Team Ninja confirmed that players will be able to summon NPCs or warriors online to defeat bosses – with Tiger Seals scattered throughout the Three Kingdoms. While the former’s AI doesn’t necessarily need to be skilled, it will definitely help draw the enemy’s attention while you hit them from a blind spot.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is slated for release on March 3rd personal computer, PS4, PS5, Xbox OneAnd Xbox Series S/X. Those who are subscribed Xbox Game Pass can play it for free on release day.
