The Belgian Grand Prix will be retained on the Formula One calendar for next year, the sport announced on Sunday, following speculation that the race at Spa-Francorchamps might be dropped.
“Formula One can confirm that the Belgian Grand Prix will be on the calendar in 2023 following an agreement to extend our collaborative partnership,” the company said in a statement ahead of the 55th edition of the race.
This week, Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali warned that reports of the race’s demise could be premature.
While Spa will return, the chances of a race at South Africa’s Kyalami circuit seem to have faded.
Formula One has yet to release the entire 2023 calendar, which is expected to include a record 24 races. The championship has 22 rounds this year.
“Further information on the 2023 calendar will be released in due course,” the sport stated.
