Nostalgia is a powerful thing. Sometimes itβs a flavor that brings you back to your favorite childhood snack, a song that immediately transports you to the first car you heard it in, or an old favorite film that brings back memories of seeing it in the theater for the first time.
Considering the most popular movies across all streaming platforms right now, it seems that wistfulness is a driving force. Stacker compiled a list of the most popular movies to stream right now using data from Reelgood as of Jan. 31, 2024. IMDb ratings and other data points were added for supplementary insights.
Titles on this list come from a host of platforms, from Netflix to Max and Prime to Paramount+. The list includes the top trending films that are included with a streamerβs subscription fee as well as those that are currently only available to rent or buy at an additional cost.
Many movies that made the top 50 are likely getting attention because of newer releases in their franchises. One of the most popular series of the 2010s, βThe Hunger Gamesβ and its sequel, βThe Hunger Games: Catching Fire,β is climbing the chart shortly after the recent release of the prequel, βThe Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakesβ (which is now also available to stream and makes an appearance on this list). Thatβs not the only early β00s blockbuster in the round-up.
The original βMean Girlsβ also made the cut, likely due to the new big-screen musical adaptation that hit theaters on Jan. 12, two decades after the first filmβs release.
Going back even further, βWonka,β the 2023 revamp of the 1971 βWilly Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,β has viewers tuning in to see whether TimothΓ©e Chalamet fills out that purple velvet jacket as well as Gene Wilder did half a century ago.
Throwback films arenβt the only thing audiences are interested in, though. Superhero movies are making an appearance on the top 50 list with βThe Marvels,β βAquaman and the Lost Kingdom,β and both the animated and live-action versions of βSpider-Manβ making it to the charts.
And, of course, as audiences race to catch up before the Academy Awards on March 10, Best Picture contenders like βBarbie,β βOppenheimer,β βPast Lives,β and βKillers of the Flower Moonβ are trending, too.
So whether you need a little movie night inspiration or are just curious about the viewing habits of the rest of the country, read on to see the most popular movies across all streaming platforms right now.
