Netflix has only announced two originals from India for January 2023 so far. Sidharth Malhotra plays an undercover Indian spy in the 1970s Mission Majnu, who is sent across the border on a deadly mission to uncover a covert nuclear weapons program in the heart of Pakistan. Originally conceived as a theatrical release, Mission Majnu was sold to Netflix in early December. Mission Majnu will be released on Netflix on January 20, 2023, just in time for Republic Day. January’s other Indian Netflix original, trial by fire, follows a grieving couple (Abhay Deol and Rajshri Deshpande)’s struggle for justice as they cope with the loss of their children. It is based on the real life fire at Uphaar cinema in New Delhi in 1997. All episodes of Trial by Fire will be released on Netflix on January 13, 2023.
The first month of the new year has a third Netflix Original about India. (Otherwise it is a British production.) Mumbai Mafia: Police vs. the Underworld follows the fight between police and organized crime on the city streets of the 1990s. Featuring interviews with the officers and “encounter specialists” involved in the fight, it paints a picture of D-Company, the Dawood Ibrahim-controlled syndicate running drugs, racketeering, extortion and even terrorism to keep what was then Bombay in check to hold bulldog grip. Mumbai Mafia: Police vs The Underworld will be released on Netflix on January 6, 2023.
Internationally, we play Christian Bale as a former police detective in the New York suburbs of the 1830s, where he investigates a series of murders with the help of young academy cadet Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling). Yes, that’s the one you mean. Based on the 2003 novel of the same name The light blue eye Streams January 6, 2023 on Netflix. Over in long content, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn returns with scandi-noir thriller Copenhagen Cowboy – out January 5, 2023 – in which a woman with supernatural powers (Angela Bundalovic) seeks revenge after spending a lifetime as a human Happiness was sold charm.
January 2023 also has a couple of big recurring series. The hit Israeli thriller Fauda returns for its fourth season as Doron Kavillio (Lior Raz) deals with the death of a colleague while navigating a deadly new mission to Lebanon. After premiering in Israel in July, Fauda season four arrives in full on Netflix on January 20, 2023 second season of Vikings: Valhalla this begins shortly after the tragic fall of the Kattegat. Fleeing in Scandinavia, they must survive outside of their comfort zone in the fjords. All episodes of Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 will be available on Netflix on January 12, 2023.
The start of the new year also has some interesting documentation in store. The creators of Formula 1: Drive to Survive enter the world of tennis with Break Point, where they travel alongside some of the most talented tennis players in the world – from Casper Rudd to Nick Kyrgios and from Iga Swiatek to Stefanos Tsitsipas – to compete in Grand Slams . The likes of Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick and John McEnroe will share insights into life on tour. Split into two halves, Break Point will premiere on January 13, 2023, with the second half slated for release in June 2023.
At the end of the month, actress and model Pamela Anderson shares the story of her rise to fame, rocking romances and infamous sextape scandal in her own words, in personal videos and diaries. The intimate and investigative two-hour Pamela, A Love Story arrives on Netflix January 31, 2023. And finally, Emmy-winner Joe Berlinger follows the rise and fall of financier Bernie Madoff, who created one of the largest Ponzi schemes in Wall Street history, worth $64 billion (approx. The Madoff: The Monster of Wall limited series Street is available on Netflix on January 4, 2023.
