Class, a Hindi adaptation of Spanish series Elite, just got a trailer and release date. Netflix has confirmed the young adult drama, which raises questions about class divisions and wealth, will be released on the platform on February 3. Similar to the original, the adaptation, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia (Daddy), pits three working-class kids against the powerful elites of a prestigious international school, with the ensuing drama uncovering the dark side of the rich. There is currently no word on the episode count for Class.

The trailer for Class begins with voiceover, presumably from the local police, as we are presented with blurry images of the police seemingly inspecting a corpse. “Has this ever happened in Hampton before?” the voice asks, suspicious of the three new kids who recently got into the elite school thanks to a scholarship – Dheeraj (Pyush Khati), Balli (Cwaayal Singh) and Saba (Madhyama Segal). the Class The trailer then jumps back in time to show the glamorous school – one adorned with state-of-the-art facilities and regular parties, not a common sight for these new students who hail from Delhi’s grittier side. Dheeraj describes the school as the “best and most expensive”, riddled with “spoiled children from strange families”.

“You always get in trouble here. Watch out here, okay?”, Suhani (Anjali Siwaraman), who has taken a liking to the new students, warns Dheeraj in confidence. Throughout the Class trailer, our heroes are portrayed as victims of bullying, whether because of their lack of English skills, the way they behave, or simply existing among the elite. “Why do you have to give alms to every beggar,” a classmate asks Suhani after advising Dheeraj not to go anywhere else and not talk to her. Then we meet Balram Patwal aka Balli, a passionate bodybuilder who’s not ashamed to take off his shirt to impress girls in class. “I’m Hindi-medium, but my English is like a bullet train,” he says, while the trailer gives the impression he’ll eventually make the school’s modeling team. Understandably, the other kids get jealous.

The Class trailer then switches to a darker side, introducing the rowdy Neeraj (Gurfateh Pirzada), Dheeraj’s friend who tries to encourage him to steal from the rich. “Black money is earned illegally. We should be looting them anyway,” he tells a reluctant Dheeraj, who ends up getting caught up in the plan. Unfortunately things go wrong and the three new students become the prime suspects in a murder with no one believing in their innocence simply because they are from a lower class. “I wish there was someone who could beat them at their own game and show them that we exist too,” Dheeraj says in an off-screen comment. “We are of the same class.”

earlier this month, Netflix also revealed the occupation for Class, including Ayesha Kanga as Yashika, Chayan Chopra as Dhruv, Chintan Rachchh as Faruq, Moses Koul as Sharan, Naina Bhan as Koel and Zeyn Shaw as Veer. The series was written by a team of five – Rajesh Devraj (Gold), Kersi Khambatta (Being Cyrus), Raghav Kakkar (Faraaz), Bhaskar Hazarika (Ravening) and Kashyap Kapoor.

All episodes of Class will be available on Netflix on February 3rd.
