Guests hitting up a Chick-fil-A restaurant recently for a quick chicken sandwich might have noticed something off about the chain’s signature waffle fries.
If that’s you, then don’t worry: you’re not crazy.
According to Fox News, many customers have been noticing a change in flavor — often with mixed results.
As for why that’s the case, it turns out the fan-favorite chicken chain has actually been messing with the recipe.
In a news release, Chick-fil-A announced that it recently made a “slight adjustment” to its waffle potato fries.
The change is aimed at making the menu item keep its crisp texture for a greater period of time while still offering “the same great taste,” the release reads.
“We know Chick-fil-A fans love our waffle potato fries,” Chick-fil-A spokesperson Bryan Malenius reportedly told Fox News. “Last year, we made a slight adjustment to our waffle potato fries recipe, which offers the same great taste while also making our waffle potato fries stay crispier longer.”
Company officials also explained that the new recipe doesn’t contain any of the nine major allergens — milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soybeans — though the new coating used for the fries does contain pea starch.
