Not every Ed Sheeran concert is surprisingly Eminem.
That’s exactly what happened at Sheeran’s show at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday night. The hometown rapper surprised the audience by taking the stage and performing two songs alongside Sheeran.
The duo performed Eminem’s Oscar-winning song “Lose Yourself” just after 10 p.m., followed by another Eminem classic, “Stan.”
If you watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on HBO last year, you saw Eminem perform “Stan” after his induction, and Sheeran joined him onstage for that performance. While it probably came as a shock to fans at Ford Field, the two are clearly good friends.
Eminem sometimes shows up on stage at concerts when big musicians perform in Detroit (he surprised fans during a Drake and Big Sean concert in town, to name a few), but of course that’s never a guarantee.
Sheeran was visibly excited as he reportedly told the audience, “I don’t know about you, but that was pretty awesome” after the performance wrapped.
Sheeran also reportedly began his encore with a Detroit Lions jersey with “Mathers” on the back, a clear nod to Eminem. Sheeran also performed a more intimate concert at the Royal Oak Music Theater on Friday night.
