The 80th edition of the Golden Globe Awards will be streamed exclusively on India’s Lionsgate Play, the streaming service announced on Wednesday. According to a press release, in-country Lionsgate Play subscribers can watch the annual awards show live on January 11 at 6:30 a.m. IST at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
Red carpet coverage of the event, which will feature a pan-Indian blockbuster RRR at 5:30 PM IST in the categories of Best Film – Non-English and Best Original Song – Feature Film (for the Telugu song “Naatu Naatu”). That Golden Globe Awards are also streamed exclusively on Lionsgate game in Malaysia and the Philippines.
Amit Dhanuka, Executive Vice President, lion gatesaid after a phenomenal year for Lionsgate Play in India, the platform is happy to add Golden Globes to its awards lineup, which already boasts Emmy Awards and American Music Awards.
“The Golden Globe Awards are viewed in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide. Lionsgate Play is pleased to announce the exclusive live streaming of the prestigious event in India, Malaysia and the Philippines to mark its groundbreaking 80th anniversary,” Dhanuka said in a prepared statement.
From Lionsgate Play, political series gas lit bagged a nomination for lead actor Julia Roberts in the Limited Series Actress category.
“We remain committed to providing our audiences with quality and diverse content, and events like the long-awaited Golden Globes are a testament to that – the nominations and performances will be global buzz, and this year’s ceremony will be record-breaking in the truest sense of the word word. We are delighted with the nomination of Julia Roberts for Gaslit and look forward to her victory,” he added.
The nominations for the 2023 Golden Globe Awards were announced on December 12 last year. Conducted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the awards honor the very best in film and American television.
Among the black talent is the nomination of Niecy Nash (Dahmer – Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer) could set her on the path to becoming one of the first black actresses to win a Globe for a limited series.
Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) is the second youngest entrant in the history of the category for Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series. Other notable nominations include father-and-son acting stars Brendan and Domhnall Gleeson flying the flag for Ireland at the awards this year The Banshees by Inisherin and The patientrespectively.
There are 41 first-timers in this year’s nomination pool, including RRR music composer MM Keeravani, Julia Garner (ozark), Adam Scott (severance pay), Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), Austin Butler (elvis), Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin), Selena Gomez (Only murders in the building), Zendaya (euphoria) and Emma D’Arcy (house of the dragon).
Comedian and actor Jerrod Carmichael will host the event, which has seen the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas and Tracy Morgan named as presenters for the ceremony.
