DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has announced the first chapter of their long-term plans for the revamped DC Universe (DCU) via a roadmap. Envisioned by Gunn alongside co-CEO Peter Safran, the plan, titled Gods and Monsters for the next 8-10 years, will tie storylines across film, television, games and animation. “Having the characters be consistent, played by the same actors, and it works within a story,” Gunn said in the presentation, after reaffirming how disconnected and chaotic the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was. The announcement housed several well-known intellectual property rights, in addition to introducing new bows, such as those of Creature Commandos and Booster Gold.
The Batman: Part II
Matt Reeves The Batman and the associated universe has been marked as safe by the parent company Warner Bros. Discoverywho previously regarded it as a ‘quality product’. Now it seems so reported meeting between director and Gunn went smoothly, with the latter confirming that they will be included dc comics’ Elseworld’s strategy for distinguishing stories unrelated to the main issue DCU Canon. Ditto for Todd Phillips’ joker franchise and Teen Titans GO! Even the one run by Colin Farrell Penguin spin-off series is treated as such since it is part of the BatVerse. Robert Pattinson will return in the sequel, now officially titled The Batman: Part II, slated for release on October 3, 2025.
Superman: Legacy
Heralded as the “true beginning of the DCU”, Superman: Legacy is the next live-action interpretation of the Kryptonian superhero, written by Gunn himself. As previously stated, the script will focus on a younger version of the Man of Steel, although it’s not an origin story. Gunn spoke too Henry Cavills role around the situation whose Return as Superman was canceled in favor of their updated plans for the DCU. “Also, it’s important to say that Henry Cavill wasn’t fired,” Gunn said in the news conference (via IGN). “Henry just wasn’t hired superman in the Superman movie. There was never a deal there for another film.”
Cavill’s announcement is pending Instagram and reports that a The sequel to Man of Steel led many to believe he was back to don the cloak once more. However, Gunn’s recent comments suggest things were never official. “I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy,” Gunn said during the presentation (via The Hollywood Reporter). “I think he’s being pushed around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But that Superman isn’t Henry for a number of reasons.” Superman: Legacy is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
The Lightning, Shazam! Wrath of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
This part is probably the most confusing part of the entire roadmap. Gunn confirmed that it was led by Ezra Miller The Lightning Film serves as a reset point for the DC universe, inspired by the Flashpoint story in which the scarlet speedster brings unintended results to his timeline. But that’s what he suggested Shazam! wrath of the gods – got the one new trailer last week — connects “directly” in The Lightning. It’s unclear if this would be the last we see of Shazam!given to the Filmmaker Executive before canceled a Black Adam sequel even. Shazam! 2 releases 17. March in theaters, followed by The Lightning at June 16th. With the latter serving as a turning point, it will be interesting to see how this story unfolds.
The 53 Most Anticipated Movies of 2023
Then in August Blue Beetle breaks new ground in the DC Universe and features the first film in the franchise to star a Hispanic actor. It then follows Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Christmas Day, that too stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne – both belonged to the old snyderverse Regime. It appears that the film, while coming out on schedule, returns to the timeline reset event The Lightning. This could add even more confusion since star Jason Momoa Confirmed last month that he always will be Aquaman and that no one would replace him. Does Gunn plan to use him in the new DCU continuity? Only time can tell.
However, Gunn seemed pretty sure when addressing the status of two key players in the DCEU – Affleck and Cavill – stating that they “are not part of this universe”. However, the former is in talks with the studio to headline a DC project.
creature commands
The pretty outrageous creature commands is among the first projects fans of the revamped DC universe can expect. Written by Gunn himself, the animated series will tie straight into the live-action universe, with characters moving in and out of media – “usually the same actor does her voice as who plays her in live-action.” This is similar to what what the Marvel Cinematic Universe participate What if…?. Gunn also revealed the seven main characters to be expected from the original comic book series – Rick Flag Sr., Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, GI Robot and Weasel. The anthropomorphic weasel previously appeared in The Suicide Squad film and was voiced by Sean Gunn. At this point there is no telling if he will reprise the role.
catfish
Less than a week after Doom Patrol Series was cancelled, creator Jeremy Carver found a new appearance catfish. As the name suggests, the series will follow the story of ruthless Task Force X director Amanda Waller Viola Davis Returning to the role that has since established itself as a recurring canon role in DC projects. “Viola Davis will be joining forces with members of the team peacemaker‘ said Gunn, adding that Carver will be working with Christal Henry (Guardian) to conceive the series.
lanterns
When reported until now, HBO Max long-wearing Green Lantern The series will focus on the two most popular versions of the character, John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Lanterns was greenlit as part of a creative overhaul that saw writer Seth Grahame-Smith resign from the project after writing a full eight-episode season with openly gay Green Lantern member Guy Gardner. This new project has an all-new storyline that Gunn likens to True Detective, “with a bunch of Green Lanterns who are space police officers who keep watch over Earth’s turf.” related to our larger history of the DCU.”
The authority
A ‘passion project’ by Gunn, The authority is based on characters from the Wildstorm imprint and will interact with the main characters from DCU. They essentially consist of a team of superheroes obsessed with saving the planet to the extent that they are willing to push moral boundaries, with ideologies often mirroring that of a villain. “I think it’s a very different look at superheroes,” Gunn added.
paradise lost
Set in Themyscira, the island nation where the Amazonians live paradise lost is a planned TV series intended to serve as the origin story for the locale. Inhabited and ruled exclusively by women, the show focuses on some drama and political intrigue, exploring the set rules and the lore behind the banishment of all males from the territory. “It’s almost like that game of Thrones with Westeros, but with all residents of Paradise Island,” Gunn said in the presentation.
The brave and the bold
Based on writer Grant Morrison’s incredible comic book series, the film The Brave and the Bold will introduce DCUs Batman. There’s no word on casting details just yet, but there will be the Dark Knight’s biological son, Damien Wayne, as Robin. Born a highly skilled assassin under the supervision of nemesis Ra’s al Ghul, it’s now up to Bruce Wayne to channel his inner parent and bring the erratic child into line. This will also serve as the start of the bat family in the DC Universe.
Booster Gold
Cult Favorite Superhero Booster Gold is getting a TV series adaptation on HBO Max. For the uninitiated, it follows a glory-seeking showboat loser from the future who travels back in time and uses advanced technology to pull off high-profile stunts and become a superhero. With a foreknowledge of historical events, he manages to plan his course of action and win the hearts of many, though his reputation is soon tarnished. You’ve seen him a lot in the comics Blue Beetleso maybe we’ll see him interacting with Xolo Maridueña’s character from the aforementioned film.
Supergirl: The woman of tomorrow
Based on Tom King’s version of the character, Supergirl: The woman of tomorrow is described as an epic sci-fi film that explores a unique, jaded version of Kara Zor-El. Everyone knows her cousin Kal-El, who was raised as Clark Kent by loving parents and eventually became a symbol of hope for Metropolis. However, Kara grew up on a floating piece of krypton racing somewhere out in the galaxy after seeing people around her dying in horrific ways.
swamp thing
DC steers onto the trail with its upcoming horror swamp thing Film that, while aurally different, still feeds into the remainder of the DCU. Very little is known about this film, but it will focus on the origin story of the beloved character.
