JioCinema, the digital streaming partner for Indian Premier League cricket tournament for 2023 and beyond, will stream the tournament in India for free. IPL 2023 kicks off on March 31st and JioCinema introduces various new technological improvements across different platforms aiming to enhance the viewing experience for users. Some of the new technologies include multiple camera angles for the user to choose and switch between, and up to Ultra HD 4K resolution streaming for all 74 matches in the tournament.
IPL 2023 on JioCinema: Streaming in Ultra HD resolution
Ahead of its first year as a digital streaming platform for the popular Indian Premier League cricket tournament, JioCinema has introduced various new technologies and improvements designed to improve the viewing experience on various mobile and TV platforms. The company has worked with tournament organizers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to upgrade equipment and ensure the tournament can be streamed globally in up to Ultra-HD 4K resolution – ideal for viewing on large Smart -TVs.
JioCinema is also working on low-tech, low-cost options to stream IPL 2023. Jio is affordable JioPhone feature phones support the JioCinema platform and also work with the Jio Media Cable accessory, which can potentially enable streaming from a feature phone to even older TVs that don’t have HDMI ports, such as B. CR TV. Of course, smartphone and tablet users can use adapters or cables in addition to wireless streaming to create a stable, wired display connection to a TV.
IPL 2023 on JioCinema: statistics, multiple camera angles and 12 languages

The app also marks match highlights in the streaming bar so users can jump to important moments quickly and easily. Many of these features are also available in the JioCinema Smart TV apps; Features such as multiple camera angles, stats and scorecards and more can even be viewed on large screen devices, ensuring the main stream and stats can be viewed side-by-side so as not to interrupt the view of the game.
Interestingly, JioCinema offers the IPL in India in 12 languages to improve the viewing experience for viewers in different regions. The language selection not only changes the language of the comment, but also modifies graphs and statistics to be displayed in the chosen language. Available languages include English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Bengali, and Gujarati, among others.
IPL 2023 on JioCinema: Virtual Reality Cricket Viewing
While there is no firm timeline as to when this will be fully rolled out, JioCinema is already working on making IPL streaming VR friendly. Some content could be made available in 360-degree format, where advertising banners or statistics are displayed alongside a virtualized big-screen experience. Equipment for this, including an affordable VR headset (JioDive) and more expensive VR glasses (JioGlass), are already in the works. Using 360 degree cameras on certain games could allow for a true 360 degree viewing experience depending on how you position your head.
JioCinema is preparing to put all of this to the test in its first year as a digital streaming partner for the IPL, and notably does not charge a subscription fee to access the app and its content. The fast-growing OTT platform already has some experience of a major sports tournament, having previously streamed that FIFA World Cup 2022 in India. IPL 2023 will also be available on linear cable and DTH television networks, with Star India retaining the rights for 2023.
