The streaming service Netflix has announced that the popular series Cobra Kai will end with the upcoming sixth season. The streamer shared the news with a video message on Friday, which teased that the show’s final chapter will be the series’ “worst” season

Cobra Kai is connected to a spinoff series The Karate Kid Franchised after the competitive world of martial arts in Southern California. The series started on youtube for the first two seasons before going to switch Netflix.

It features original Karate Kid stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka along with an ensemble cast of Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni DeCenzo, Peyton List, Martin Kove and Thomas Ian Griffith.

In a statement released on the official Twitter Series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg described the decision to end the series as “bittersweet”.

“Re-introducing the world to the ‘Karate Kid’ universe has been our humble honor. The production of ‘Cobra Kai’ has allowed us to join the same sacred dojo once inhabited by the amazing Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub and all the amazing original cast.

“It also allowed us to play Sensei, expand on the original storylines, and give birth to a new generation of misfits. We never took this opportunity for granted,” they said.

The trio said they’re glad they’re finishing the series on “our terms, leaving the valley at the time and place we always envisioned.”

“While this may be a bittersweet day for fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to share more ‘The Karate Kid’ stories with you in the future. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai never dies,” they concluded.

Cobra Kai was written and executive produced by Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg through their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment.

Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett are executive producers for Westbrook Entertainment, along with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures television. Macchio and Zabka also serve as executive producers.
