A new Avatar animated series starring an Earthbender is reportedly in the works at Avatar Studios and Paramount. According to Avatar News, the series serves as a sequel to The Legend of Korra, which is itself a continuation of the original The Last Airbender series and is scheduled for release on Paramount+ in 2025. The independent source, which has a great but imperfect track record, goes on to claim that the series will likely come out after the untitled animated film Avatar: The Last Airbender hits theaters in October 2025.

earlier this year, Outstanding animation and Nickelodeon animation confirmed in a presentation that they want to expand Avatar: The Last Airbender universe with three animated films. Lauren Montgomery, who worked as a storyboard artist on the original Emmy Winner The series is attached to direct the first film. Corresponding Avatar Newsboth projects – the film and the aforementioned Earthbender series – targeting a 2025 release is no coincidence.

“2025 is going to be a HUGE launch year for Avatar Studios animated universe, with the adult Aang movie hitting theaters on October 10, 2025, as well as this new series streaming that same year.” “It’s not a mistake on my part, they’re releasing both on purpose in the same year — part of a much larger plan.” Take that part with a grain of salt, as no official sources have confirmed the film will focus on an adult version of Aang. The report mentions that delays are possible but sticks to the idea that Avatar Studios is working on “multiple projects in parallel”.

In the meantime, over on twitter, Netflix teases an update for his Live-action reinterpretation from Avatar: The Last Airbender, in which a mystical child Aang and his companions Katara and Sokka seek to restore peace to a war-torn world. The creators of the original anime-style series, Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino, were brought in as executive producers and showrunners, but later left due to creative differences. In an open letter confirming his exit from the project, DiMartino had this to say: “Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar has the potential to be good. It might turn out to be a show that many of you will end up enjoying. But I can be sure that whatever version comes out on screen, it won’t be what Bryan and I envisioned or intended.”

Last year, Netflix announced the core cast for its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, including Gordon Cormier (Lost in Space) as airbender Aang, Kiawentiio (Rutherford Falls) as hiker hopeful Katara, Ian Ousley (13 Reasons Why) as her brother Sokka and Dallas Liu (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko.

If this is confirmed to be true, the new Avatar animated series will be released Outstanding+ in 2025.
