Shah Rukh Khan’s new film Pathan broke Indian box office records after its release last week, bringing hope to Bollywood after a spate of underperforming performances. Pathan posted the highest-ever box office receipts for a Hindi film for its opening and second day in India, raking in Rs. 250 crore in its first five days, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Sunday. International ticket sales soared to over Rs. 100 crore in just three days, according to Yash Raj Films, who produced the film.
It comes after the glittery Hindi language bollywood Films have struggled at the box office after Indian cinemas reopened about a year ago following a pandemic hiatus.
“The unprecedented solemn success of PathanI think speaks volumes about where we are going as a Hindi film industry,” Akshaye Rathi, a cinema chain owner, told AFP on Monday.
“Here we are back to the old school of celebrating cinema within cinemas as a collaborative viewing experience.”
The release of Pathan57 years old khans first film in four years, had been eagerly awaited.
Khan, popularly known as “King Khan”, has a huge following around the world. The film also appears Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.
Videos shared on social media showed fans in Indian cinemas dancing and cheering throughout the film.
Last year films from South India, say in the Telugu language RRRdominated box office receipts.
RRR was also celebrated internationally win a Golden Globe for Best Original Song and Best Rating Oscar nomination in the same category.
