Forbes has released its travel guide for the top 12 destinations in 2025 — and one Florida island has ranked among the best places globally.
According to Forbes, travelers have been increasingly drawn toward “more remote locales” and “wellness getaways.”
“These trends reflect a growing desire for unique, enriching travel experiences that prioritize personal well-being and connection with nature,” the travel guide reads. “From the tranquil beaches of the Maldives to the vibrant cultural landscape of Bhutan, these destinations offer a diverse range of experiences that go beyond a typical vacation.”
Many locales on the list involve foreign bucket-list destinations like South Asia’s Bhutan, the Athens Riviera in Greece, and the luxurious Maldives for its wellness tourism.

Domestically, the travel guide includes places like New Orleans (which is set to host the next Super Bowl match in February) and Santa Monica in California (thanks in part to its recent Regent Santa Monica Beach).
However, one spot on the list can only be found in the Sunshine State: Longboat Key.
“Unless you are a local, you might not know about this tranquil barrier island off the coast of Sarasota. Here, visitors will discover 12 miles of soft white-sand beaches, turquoise waters and nature preserves. But the secret is out with the opening of The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, the only hotel from the brand to debut in the U.S. in 2024 and the largest development on the island in 50 years.
The beachfront hotel features more than a half dozen restaurants, a 20,000-square-foot spa and a 500,000-gallon lagoon for snorkelers with 40 rays and 2,800 local reef fish.”

And even putting aside the typical tourist features, one of Florida’s top restaurants for the year can be found on this island.
Dry Dock Waterfront Grill, a local seafood restaurant, was ranked among the best restaurants nationwide this year by OpenTable. With over 9,000 reviews and a 4.9-star rating, the eatery garnered a notable reputation for its view overlooking Sarasota Bay and its menu featuring fish like grouper and snapper.
“Dry Dock Waterfront Grill is a beloved gem on Longboat Key, renowned for its ‘excellent food and service,’” OpenTable’s review summary for the restaurant reads. “The fresh seafood, including must-try grouper bites and lobster bites, consistently delights patrons. With stunning bay views, especially from the upstairs dining room, it’s a perfect spot for special occasions.”
