ORLANDO, Fla. – Universal Orlando Resort filed paperwork on Thursday, pledging 13 acres for a commuter train station that could connect the US’s seventh busiest airport to the heart of the tourism district in one of the world’s top tourist destinations.
Universal has submitted an application to Orange County, Fla. to form a quasi-government entity that will design, finance, build, operate, own and maintain a new SunRail station at the Orange County Convention Center. When complete, potentially as soon as 2030, the line would connect the main corridor of Orlando’s tourism industry to Orlando International Airport.

The current Sunrail route has no stops at the airport or in the Orlando tourist district.
The new line will also connect residents and visitors to Brightline, the privately operated intercity rail line currently serving Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It’s coming to Orlando International Airport later this year.
“We are one step closer to creating a multi-directional commuter rail system that will benefit our entire region,” said John Sprouls, chief administrative officer at Universal Parks & Resorts.
