The Sara Ali Khan-led Gaslight trailer is finally here. Ahead of its March 31 premiere, Disney+ Hotstar has unveiled a two-minute trailer for its latest crime thriller, which chronicles a royal mystery surrounding a father’s disappearance, with haunting visions that question the legitimacy of it all. In it, Khan plays a disabled woman who returns to her ancestral home and suspects her father has been murdered, despite struggling to convince anyone of her claims. Pavan Kripalani, best known for Bhoot Police, is directing Gaslight, which also stars Chitrangda Singh (Modern Love Mumbai) and Vikrant Massey (Chhapaak).
The gas light Trailer opens with Meesha (khan), returning to the royal estate after 15 years to be cared for by her stepmother Rukmini (Chitrangadha Singh) and their guards. “Look at you, all grown up! Nice to see you Meesha… Welcome home,” she greets as Meesha carefully adjusts her legs on her wheelchair. It is hinted that there is something sinister at play here as Meesha was invited by her father who is nowhere to be seen. Rukmini claims he’ll be back in a few days and continues to watch the actions of a concerned Meesha. The gas light Trailer then cuts to introduce Kapil (Massey), her father’s right-hand man, who keeps his distance from his boss’s personal affairs.
Unable to sleep, Meesha is then seen navigating the house late at night in her wheelchair, occasionally being greeted by a shadowy being in a top hat who drags her down the stairs. When she regains consciousness, she remains adamant that the figure she saw resembled her father, which understandably has drawn close scrutiny from the residents. “So what you’re saying is that Ratan is back and playing hide-and-seek with us,” said a police officer (Rahul Dev) interrogates Meesha in the Gaslight trailer. “You say that you saw Raja Saheb in the night. If you’ve seen him, why is he missing?” On another of her late-night escapades, Meesha finds an abandoned car in the parking lot, only to discover her father’s body inside. However, when she returns with Kapil – to get help – the carcass seems to have vanished into thin air. Meesha is still holding her father’s cufflink, which she plucked from the body, suggesting that she wasn’t lying after all and that she was being tricked the whole time.
As the investigation progresses, the Gaslight trailer reveals itself in a montage, jumping between a submerged vehicle in the estate’s pond, a seemingly unsuspecting Rukmini, another possible murder and promising much more mayhem. “It was challenging to step into this role, both mentally and physically, as she is a very complex and nuanced character. I hope this film will be an exciting ride for the audience as each scene will keep them in suspense. I’m grateful for the collaboration with Tips Films Ltd, 12th Street Entertainment, Pavan Kirpalani and Disney+ Hotstar,” Khan said in a prepared statement. Gaslight also plays a role Akshay Oberoi (jungle) as one of the estate’s security guards.
Gaslight will be released on March 31st exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar.
